About the Event
This event was inspired by an idea from the legend Hannele Steyn an event as tough as the area.
The area is breathtakingly beautiful and tranquil but for a rider wanting to finish the 105km it is tough as it comes. The terrain consists of mostly jeep track with rocky sections and sections of open gravel road to give the legs a breather.
This is NOT a long distance gravel ride, this is real mountain biking. You need to be fit and strong and your steed in good nick.
Aukarob is a KhoiSan word given to this part of the Klein Karoo between Montagu and Touwsriver. The meaning of the word Aukarob is “harde veld” harsh veld/vegetation, and truly the area can be harsh on the body and on your bike.
Again our aim at Makadas is to try and preserve some of the history of the area that we host our events in. We have found many work tools of the KhoiSan while walking in the veld it is not a secret that this used to be their home.
Terrain: Varied terrain from smooth gravel road to coarse jeep tracks and everything in between.
