Event #5 is hosted by Gecko Rock Private Nature Reserve. Gecko Rock PNR is well known as an adventure get away, with many different cycling and hiking trails as well as rock climbing and 4×4 routes. Gecko Rock PNR is also known for pristine Karoo vegetation that has been restored since no farming in 25 years done here, just wildlife moving through.

Gecko Rock Private Nature Reserve is our 2nd last event in the Montagu Winter Trail Run Series and also the location that is the farthest out into the “wild”. Here you will be overwhelmed by nature and the peace and tranquility that still exists in our busy world. This event has bragging rights for a section that “runs” through succulent Karoo with many different succulent species. The walkers might see and experience more of this “hidden gem” section than the runners. The campsite and the first section of the trails are home to Cape Mountain Zebra as well as Gemsbuck, Grey Rhebok and many smaller species. Take note the change in routes from the 2025 event

7 km Fun Run | 104 m ascent

Please note there has been a change to this route from 2025: the walkers and runners will be going through the same section of succulent Karoo. The route is flatter than the 2025 5km run.

Breathe the fresh air and smells of klein karoo vegetation and keep your eyes open for those small succulents. This is also on the walking trail of the Zebra’s

10.8 km Trail Run | 247 m ascent

This 11km trail is a great mixture of single track and jeep track. Enjoy the great trails hand built over time to showcase the beauty of this private nature reserve. Enough climb to get a good workout and enough single track to keep you focused. The start and finish is the same for the fun and trail run and takes you through pristine karoo vegetation.

16 km Trail Run | 470 m ascent

This 16km trail run starts off to follow the same route as the 11km but then the two trails split at the first water point, this trail then continues onto the 4wd trail. There is a definite amount of climbing on this trail and it is for the fitter runner. The views over the hills and valley’s will take your breath away if the climbing didn’t. At the 2nd water point all three distances come together to finish with flowing single track. You will love it!

Timing & medals only for runners: 5 / 10 or 15km distances. Walkers that would like a medal can request on the day for an additional R30. Walkers entry fee covers participation & water point only.

Gecko Rock Private Nature Reserve is an eco-adventure destination, nestled in the Nougaspoort Valley, 25km from Touwsrivier.
