The Montagu Winter Trail Run Series, runs from end of May to end of August.
Six amazing and different settings with some of Montagu’s best trails and venues.
Guest and Game Farms as well as Nature Reserves are part of this spectacular series.
The trails are in pristine condition and each venue has something unique on offer.

WINTER TRAIL RUN SERIES
FOR THE LOVE OF RUNNING !!
Six events to get you through winter.
Explore Montagu and surrounding district with these six different trail runs. We have used 6 venues for 2025 ranging from Guest and Game Farms to Nature Reserves, the trails and venues was such a hit that we decided to stay with these venues for 2026 Montagu has amazing trails for running, hiking and cycling.
The NEW edition this year will be a longer distance ranging from 15 to 20 km
When you enter for the entire series upfront you will receive a special edition running cap and get a discount on the package.
Remember to book your accommodation asap, some of these guest farms are out in the country side, so book for the weekend.
Take Note: each event has something unique to it, for instance a pet friendly run

Shepherd's Fountain
Rietvlei Holiday Farm is our second destination, just outside of Montagu on the R62
Rumali Guest Farm
Our third event is hosted by Rumali Guest Farm in the Keisie Valley, stunning trails as we move out into the country side.
DrieKuilen Nature Reserve
Drie Kuilen Nature Reserve is our fourth event and we now moving out into the “karoo”
Gecko Rock
Gecko Rock is well known for many outdoor type activities with well established trails for running, hiking, cycling and climbing.
African Game Lodge
Slagkloof Trail Run, the last of the series but definately not the least. Run an age old kloof called Slagkloof on the stunning African Game Lodge

MONTAGU TRAILS - TRAIL RUN

#1 in the Montagu Winter Trail Run Series
The very first event in the MONTAGU WINTER TRAIL RUN SERIES kicks off in Montagu at the local trails. These trails have been “handmade” over the last 5 years by Chris Burkin and his team for cycling, running and hiking. It showcases the town from the koppie behind the hospital.
SHEPHERD'S FOUNTAIN TRAIL RUN

#2 in the Montagu Winter Trail Run Series
Event #2 is hosted by Shepherd’s Fountain just outside of Montagu off the R62. The trails have been coming since 2006 and is stunningly laid out to have 360 degree views of the area and magnificent views of the Langeberge.
RUMALI TRAIL RUN

#3 in the Montagu Winter Trail Run Series
The third event in the series is hosted by Rumali Farm Cottages and this event marks the debut of our very first trail, which began taking shape in April this year. Expect a mix of fun technical sections, rocky terrain and fast-flowing single track in the heart of the mountain-where the nimble klipspringer calls home.
DRIE KUILEN NATURE RESERVE TRAIL RUN

#4 in the Montagu Winter Trail Run Series
Event #4 is hosted by Drie Kuilen Nature Reserve. This is going to be a huge highlight in the series as you run animal trails that has been manicured for running and hiking. You will see gemsbuck, eland, zebra and much more.
GECKO ROCK PRIVATE NATURE RESERVE TRAIL RUN

#5 in the Montagu Winter Trail Run Series
Event #5 is hosted Gecko Rock Private Nature Reserve. Gecko Rock is well known as an adventure get away, with many different cycling and hiking trails as well as rock climbing and 4×4 routes. Gecko Rock is also known for pristine Karoo vegetation that has been restored since no farming in 25 years done here, just wildlife moving through.
AFRICAN GAME LODGE TRAIL RUN

#6 in the Montagu Winter Trail Run Series
Slagkloof trail, a beautifully cut trail through a narrow kloof. This is the grand finale of the trail run series and we kick it off at the Lodge. Running through a game farm with eland, kudu, gemsbuck, giraffe and many smaller game, NOT TO BE MISSED!
